Topiaria

TOPIARIA är ett modulsystem med odlings- och sittmöjligheter för offentlig miljö. Genom hela utformningen har jag haft begreppet hållbart samhälle som min grundpelare. Grundidén av konceptet kommer ifrån att jag i mitt examensarbete fick ett uppdrag av ett lokalt bostadsbolad där de efterfrågade en utsmyckning i deras nya bostadsområde. Det var viktigt för mig att hålla mig ärlig mot områdets kulturella historia och att finna en förankring och koppling till platsen där bostadsområdet skulle byggas. I mina undersökningar fann jag att platsens centrala roll under sekelskiftet var att aktivera och sammanföra människor och genom detta kände människorna en större livskvalitét och mening. För att få tillbaka den känslan till platsen ledde detta fram till ett koncept om odling, där social hållbarhet och kulturell historia stått i centrum för utformningen. Konceptet handlar om att uppmuntra människor till kreativitet och få sina sociala behov tillfredställda och på så sätt även öka medvetenheten om naturen och om varandra. Formgivningen skall även uppmuntra till mer stadsodlingar (Urban Gardening) i städerna. Modulsystemet har fått namnet Topiaria som betyder trädgårdsodling på latin.

TOPIARIA is a modular system of cultivation for public areas. Throughout the design, I had the concept of sustainable society as my mainstay. The basic idea of the concept appeared during my final exams when I got an assignment through a local housing where they requested a decoration in their new neighborhood. It was important for me to keep true to the area's cultural history and to find support and a connection to the place where the neighborhood was built. In my research I found that the site's central role during the turn of the century was to activate and bring people together and through that people felt a greater quality of life and meaning. To get back that feeling to the place, this led to a concept of culture, where social sustainability and cultural history has been central to the design. The concept is to encourage people to be creative and where their social needs meet, thus also raising awareness about nature and about each other. The design shall also encourage more Urban Gardening in cities. The modular system has been named Topiaria meaning horticulture in Latin.
